Information about supernovae?

If a sun is really really big. it will burn faster and have a short life. When it goes into it's last phase before it explodes it gets so bright you can see it in the daytime. This happend about once every 1000 years. It puts out tremendous amounts of radiation. If one were to happen in our part of the galaxy it could cause life on earth to cease.
