Digital Camera broke but I don't if its covered under the warranty?

I was in a car accident last week and my digital camera broke in the crash. The warranty says it doesn't cover a replacement or repair if it "has been subject to... alteration or accident, etc. Even though it doesn't involve a direct accident involving the camera, can I still get it replaced? I brought this camera in November and its sort of expensive... thanks for your help!
